In the summer of 2022, I completed this piece, it’s a life size metal sculpture of a Sandhill Crane made mostly from cutlery. Since moving to Nebraska, I have been fortunate to see the Sandhill Crane migration as endless flocks stop on the Platte river to rest up during their flights north. The Cranes are special part of life in Nebraska, and it was with this thought that a client commissioned this piece for her brother and sister-in-law’s 25th (silver) anniversary. The crane’s name is “Oneida” 🙂
If you want to see the progress and ‘behind the scenes’ photos, you can view my post here.
In total, there are about 1576 pieces of used cutlery in the sculpture, which weights about 225 pounds / 102 kilograms.
- 622 Spoons
- 114 Forks
- 512 Knives
- 328 Handles
Here is a gallery of images that show some of the details and overall view of the sculpture, and a few photos after the piece was installed.
