24″ x 48″ Acrylic on stretched canvas
Bruce started his studies as a Doctor and quickly decided that it wasn’t for him. Changing his major to Chemistry and finding his true calling! I’m doing two paintings for Bruce, Journey of a Chemist and Journey of an I.T. Wizard.
Everybody has many Journey’s, Personal, Careers, Family, oh they are countless! One of Bruce’s journey’s is his experience as a Chemist. This painting represents that path.

Since I will be painting TWO of Bruce’s Journeys, I want them to flow from one to the other so I paint the backgrounds together. As a Chemist, Bruce spent most of his time in the states, and as an I.T. Wizard he has traveled the world. So I wanted to depict his travels, this is why I put most of the world map on the right, since the Chemist will be painted on the left. Also, you might notice the left is darker than the right, which has more growth. Most things in my paintings have meaning, even if subtle.

After painting the backgrounds for two paths, I sketched out the main foreground objects. This will then be transferred to the canvas.

With the image transferred to the painting and blocked in with white, I started adding some color! Woo Hoo!!!

A close-up look at the books- I picked titles that had meaning to Bruce… and one that has meaning to me, can you figure out which one that is? 😀 His foot rests on the skull to represent him kicking the medical career to the curb.

I love painting the little details! Take the books for instance, I added some fun titles that have meaning to Bruce.
However, the wood grain takes forever to paint!

After taking a break to do some other things with deadlines and decide the best path to take, I used the Periodic Table as stepping stones for the path… as every chemist knows, they are the foundation…

I’ll this done for now. After I finish the next painting, I will put the two back on the easel and make sure everything lines up and the colors match, and any other tweaking before I sign it and clear coat it.
