I’ve been wearing ‘Chucks’ (Converse Chuck Taylor All-Star sneakers) for a long time. But it wasn’t until recently that I looked at them as a subject for my art work. It started with a pencil carving – a 1/8″ tall sneaker carved from a pencil lead.
This project is a 12″ x 20″ (30cm x 50cm) glass mosaic mounted on 1/4″ plexiglass. It’s been a long process working on this as I’ve taken a lot of time to select the best colors and textures for each area of the design.
I plan on using this iconic American shoe as subject for more art pieces – stay tuned! 😀
It always starts with a design and this is the original design printed and ready to be placed behind the plexiglass.
The first area I worked on was the background and the text.
Then came the fun part… picking out JUST the right pieces for the shoes. Started with the Chuck on the left.
And a few more pieces are added…
And the left Chuck is done!
For the other shoe, I decided to detail out the design first to help me find my shapes faster.
This mosaic would look great in a minimalistic office of a cafe or restaurant. If it’s alright, I would suggest this converse mosaic to my friend who’s a interior designer. He’s always searching for unique hand made stuff.
